METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Then we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we don’t use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than necessary to clean concrete. These types of surfaces can be destroyed much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal professional.
